GCA undertook the structural design work to support the restoration and extension of the Grade II listed former ribbon factory in Coventry. Sympathetic restoration was essential as the property is one of the last remaining original industrial buildings in the City Centre.
Part of Coventry’s 11th century Cathedral was exposed during the demolition works, requiring the construction of the new extension around this ancient monument.
The building was extended to provide additional commercial space in a contrasting modern style, fronting onto one of the new public spaces created as part of the Sterling Prize short-listed Phoenix Initiative.
