GCA Consulting were asked by David Watson of Woodland Survival Crafts to provide structural engineering advice for the construction of a recreated Iron Age Roundhouse at the Tame Valley Wetlands site.
GCA applied modern structural engineering knowledge based on ‘first-principals’ to a vernacular construction system that was developed thousands of years before codified design. Through creative interpretation of modern analysis methods, and a practical approach to structural behaviour, GCA were able to demonstrate such a structure to be safe for modern use as an educational facility.
