Atlantic Salmon are in steady and serious decline and Wild Trout are under threat from a range of issues across the UK.
GCA Consulting have been involved in a number of sites where alterations are being made to rivers to increase their accessibility for wild salmon and trout. Centuries of development in and around rivers has created challenges for wild species which navigate significant distances to spawn. GCA are supporting efforts to open up our rivers, ensuring a better balance of species, and returning inaccessible parts of the country’s waterways to accessible breeding grounds for native species.
We have been providing consultancy to a range of sites, where alterations to rivers beds, weirs and landscaping are required. In each case we are advising on risks, and supporting wider efforts to create these significant alterations in a cost effective manner.
