At Ribbesford Hall, GCA supervised a comprehensive refurbishment of a complex and heavily deteriorated historic roof. When GCA came to the project, proposals were in place to remove large parts of the structure due to concerns about rot and insect attack. Our approach was much more sympathetic, and allowed the retention of the majority of existing timber. This approach offered a significant reduction in project cost, at well as removing a number of risks to site operatives inherent in the inherited solution. We worked closely with Historic England and the local council to agree planning conditions which enabled work to proceed. Our overall contributions to the project saves time, cost, and historic fabric, benefiting the developer and the building itself.
